You know, there are easier ways to get a guy's attention. I know I'm not the easiest guy to get a hold of, but you could try the old fashioned way, and put something up on the sky. Leave a message on a wall, or anything that doesn't include zapping me into space.

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate you saving my ass and all, but I don't do the whole "space travel" thing any more. Though something tells me you're not going to take "no" for an answer, are you?

[Spam.]

[Jason blathers away into the device he discovered, hoping it grabs the attention of whoever is responsible for him being here. Maybe it will distract them and keep them from collecting him right away. In the meantime, he's making his way through the different floors of the Barge, trying to gather anything he can turn into a weapon and gain some information on his current whereabouts.]

[Watches him, memorizing the instructions.] What's your cabin look like?

The cave - part of it. I'm guessing the Admiral confiscated everything useful from you.

The cave can fit in this place? [Shakes his head. The more he learns about the Barge, the less sense it makes.]

[theonlyresponse]

It's [he opens his communicator to show Jason buttons and pieces of string, before he puts it back together.] technology far beyond anything I've encountered. Nobody seems to know anything about how it actually works. [= it won't be falling into the wrong hands any time soon.]

Why am I not surprised? I have some surveillance equipment stored away, as well as a few computer programs. Doubt the programs will be of much good here, but my other equipment might be.

Show me what you have. [The Admiral took all Daddy's stuff, Jay :|]

[Gets up from the couch, and pushes the coffee table back, along with the carpet it's resting on. There's a trap door underneath it with a code. After a few seconds of pressing buttons, it pops open and he sticks his head inside.]

Heh, I stand corrected. It's all gone, besides a pair of my binoculars and I'm willing to bed my computer doesn't work.

[Slams the door shut.]

Fucking Admiral needs to stay the hell away from my belongings.

[He's about to say that there's some spare equipment in his own quarters if Jason needs any, but-] That's a dollar for the swear jar.

[Jason looks like he was about to kick his table over until Bruce's comment causes him to grin.]

Putting it towards my college fund?

[theonlyresponse]

Getting there.

I'll be ready for Harvard by the end of the week.

Thought I'd try being optimistic, to go with the "better life choices" theme and all.

[He's rusty on the witty banter, so Jason takes this round, and he switches to business again:] Who have you spoken to so far?

Dick, Steph, and Tim. Do you recognize any of them besides Dick?

[theonlyresponse]

No. What should I know? [He's been exposed to Stephanie enough to form preliminary opinions, but he's especially curious about Tim]

I don't know much about Steph, other than Tim and her had a thing, she was partially responsible for Gotham going to hell, and everyone thought she was dead for awhile.

Tim came after me and the Bruce in my world ended up adopting him after his dad died. [Sometimes he hates Tim, other times he respects him. It's a mixed bag.]

[theonlyresponse]

[He did suspect someone close to her had died, but her. Hm. He focuses on what's caught his attention:] Tim had a family when he was hired? [With the implied why did he volunteer?]

Yeah. [There's a long pause on his end, catching the implied question at the end.]

It took me awhile to figure that one out. I studied everything Bruce did after I came back. I saw how his behavior changed after he had a Robin again. Before Tim showed up...he was more like you.

I'm nothing like him. [There's a venom in his voice that he reserves only for the Joker, and he hasn't been able to express this as freely as he can now.]

[crossestheline]

[The venom stings but it doesn't stop Jason from speaking his mind.]

Bruce failed me in a lot of ways, he stopped being my father when I learned the Joker was still alive. [When Jason found out the Joker lived, not only was he unavenged, but he became fatherless on that day.]

But I realized he was dying after I left, just like you. Except you didn't have a Robin to bring you back.

Do you honestly think I'd let another person put on that uniform after what happened to you?

Here's the thing; you don't have to. [Jason turns to face him so the two are looking directly at each other.]

We have each other now. Things can be different. [He can help restore Bruce's humanity and maybe Bruce can help him conquer some of his demons that he doesn't like to admit that he has.]

[theonlyresponse]

[He meets Jason's gaze with an intense expression of his own. The part of him that's happy about being reunited wins over the part of him that doesn't want another soldier. He learnt his lesson about children and soldiers too late.] They will be.

You and me, we're meant to be here together. I mean, what are the odds of us meeting in one multidimensional vortex and then meeting in another?
